Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Dear CAAS Families,

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and it’s a great time to reflect on how we can better protect ourselves, our children, and our personal information online. While awareness and knowledge about cybersecurity have increased over the years, cybercriminals have also grown more sophisticated in their tactics. That’s why it’s more important than ever to stay informed and vigilant.

One area where we often let our guard down is social media. While platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook can help us stay connected, they can also expose us to risks such as identity theft, scams, and cyberbullying. Both kids and adults must take proactive steps to protect their privacy and stay safe.

What NOT to Share on Social Media
To help keep you and your family secure online, here are five quick tips:

Keep passwords private. Don’t share your social media passwords or account details—even accidentally.
Avoid saving passwords on shared devices. This includes school computers or public networks.
Never post personally identifiable information (PII). That includes your full birthdate, phone number, OSIS or Employee ID, and home address.
Don’t share your real-time location. It can make you—and your home—a target.
Hold off on vacation posts. Sharing travel plans or photos while you’re away can signal that your home is unoccupied.
We encourage all families to discuss these tips and explore more resources to stay safe online.

Safer Access

Dear Families,

We are pleased to share an important update regarding safety measures at Tilden Educational Campus. As part of the NYC Public Schools’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school security, the Safer Access system has now been installed and will be actively used at our campus moving forward.

What is Safer Access?
Safer Access is a security system designed to ensure that all school doors remain locked outside of designated morning entry and afternoon dismissal times. When doors are locked, visitors must ring the intercom at the main entrance (or ADA-accessible entrance, if applicable) and identify themselves before being granted access to the building.

This system allows our School Safety Agents and designated staff at the main desk to see and speak with visitors before allowing entry, helping us maintain a safe and secure environment for all students and staff. Please be assured that all visitors will continue to be treated with courtesy, professionalism, and respect.

In addition to enhancing safety, Safer Access also ensures that first responders can easily access the building in case of an emergency.

Training and Support
Our school staff, including School Safety Agents, and students will receive training on how to use the system and how to support visitors in accordance with our school’s safety policies.

We believe that the Safer Access system will significantly contribute to maintaining a secure and welcoming learning environment. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school community safe.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Warm regards,

Sanatha Alexis, Principal
